Tallinn-Ämari (Emari)
Ämari is a small town located only 50 kilometers from Tallinn. A little more than half a thousand people live in the town. Although the settlement is small, it has a fairly long history. It was first mentioned in the 13-14th century. Therefore, we can say with confidence that the lands of this settlement keep many memories of events that took place several centuries ago. But the main attraction of Ämari is a relatively modern building or rather a whole complex of buildings - a military airfield. It was built back in the times of the USSR, and was very actively used during the Cold War against the United States of America. Then new aircrafts were tested at this airfield. By the way, next to it there is a cemetery where pilots who died during such tests are buried. This cemetery existed even before the appearance of the airfield. Initially, soldiers who died in World War II were buried there. After the collapse of the USSR, Soviet troops left the airfield and airbase. And, soon, the Estonian air force, as well as its NATO allies, were stationed there. Today the airbase continues to function, so people often travel there from Tallinn. These are the relatives of the military men who live in Tallinn, and the military men themselves.
