Since customs control regulations have become much stricter, it's important to know the basics to avoid spending hours at the border, having your belongings confiscated, waiting for reports to be drawn up, paying fines, and so on.
According to new laws, it is now prohibited to import luxury goods, expensive items, electronics, clothing, watches, bags, and so on worth more than €300 into the Russian Federation. If the item is new, it must be accompanied by a receipt.
As for items that can be imported, these primarily concern personal items, including electronics (phones, laptops, tablets). It's important that they be unpacked and not being brought in for resale.
You can also import up to 3 liters of alcohol and up to 2 packs of cigarettes into the Russian Federation.
Personal medications are permitted. If medications are prescription, you must have a doctor's prescription with you.
Dairy products are legally allowed to be imported only in their original packaging and must weigh no more than 5 kilograms. A receipt must also be included.
Meat is also permitted, but pork is an exception. Its import into the Russian Federation is prohibited.
As for cash, it must be declared. You can import up to 10,000 dollars or the equivalent in rubles. Euros and any other European currency are strictly prohibited. (If our passengers need to exchange euros, the driver is always ready to take them to the currency exchange office in Narva. There, they can exchange them for either dollars or rubles. However, based on our clients' experience, rubles are the best option.)
