Hestia Hotel Barons stands on the corner of Suur-Karja and Väike-Karja streets, in the very heart of the Old Town. Karja is one of the oldest streets in Tallinn. The hotel is about 5 kilometres from the airport, roughly a 20 minute drive.
Through a Closed Street Right to the Door
The hotel occupies two buildings: the main building and a second house just across the street. This stretch of Suur-Karja is closed to regular traffic, and most taxis drop passengers off on the approach to the Old Town.
We hold a special permit, so we drive onto the street and take guests right to the hotel entrance, whichever of the two buildings you are staying in.
A Hotel in a 1912 Bank
The main building was built in 1912 in Art Nouveau style as a bank. It first housed the Tallinn branch of the Riga Commercial Bank, and in the 1930s Tallinn City Bank, which installed the revolving door at the entrance in 1932.
The hotel opened in 2003, and the restoration preserved the original doors, the old lifts and the bank safes. The most unusual detail is downstairs: the wine cellar sits right inside the former bank vault.
And even earlier, in 1832, the Pfaff family opened a brewery on this very corner, which later became known as Revalia.
A 15th Century Hanseatic House Across the Street
The hotel's second building is a 15th century merchant's house, dating from the days when Tallinn was a wealthy Hanseatic town. It is home to the superior rooms.
The hotel has 65 rooms in total, and every room in the main building has its own character. Breakfast is served at Margarita restaurant, and there is a lobby bar and a small meeting room.
For Travellers Who Come for the Old Town
Most of our clients at Barons are holidaymakers who have come to enjoy Tallinn and explore the Old Town. Town Hall Square, restaurants, museums and little shops begin right outside the hotel door.
A sedan is ideal for one or two passengers, and for families or parties of up to 8, we have the Mercedes-Benz V-Class and Mercedes-Benz Vito minivans.
Airport, Port and Early Departures at No Extra Cost
We meet guests at both the airport and the port, and on the day you leave we drive you from Barons back to your flight or ferry. We operate around the clock, so there is no surcharge for early morning or night-time departures.
At the airport, your driver will be waiting with a sign bearing your name and will keep track of your flight in case it is delayed.
