Riga Christmas Market 2026

The market takes place on Dome Square from 27 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. In its modern form it has been held here since 2000.

Opening hours: Monday to Thursday 11:00 to 21:00, Friday 11:00 to 22:00, Saturday 10:00 to 22:00, Sunday 10:00 to 20:00. Opening hours may differ on public holidays.

More than 80 traders sell handmade goods: wooden toys, knitwear, amber and silver jewellery and candles. To eat and drink, try gingerbread, honey, mulled wine and Riga Black Balsam.

For children there is Santa Claus's cabin, a carousel, pony rides and a sheep shed. On weekends there are concerts on the market stage.

What to See Near the Christmas Market in Riga

The market stands right next to Riga Cathedral, the main cathedral of the city.

A few minutes' walk away is the House of the Blackheads. The Brotherhood of Blackheads is linked to Riga's story of the first decorated Christmas tree: according to tradition, they decorated it in the market square in 1510.

Nearby is also St Peter's Church with a viewing platform in its tower, offering a view over the whole Old Town.

Tallinn Christmas Market Before You Leave

If your trip starts in Tallinn, visit the Christmas market on Town Hall Square. It is open from 20 November 2026 to 6 January 2027, daily from 10:00 to 20:00.

Tallinn also claims to be the home of the Christmas tree: according to local tradition, the first tree stood on Town Hall Square in 1441.

The square is home to the Gothic Tallinn Town Hall and the Town Hall Pharmacy, one of the oldest working pharmacies in Europe.
